What is Yoga?

The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit language and means union. Through the continuous practice of Yoga, one attains a unity between body, mind and spirit.This is achieved by a series of physical postures in a meditative state.

Yoga has its origin in India and has become famous worldwide because of its many benefits. Patanjali is the founder of Yoga and he compiled all the sutras (literary compositions) more than 1500 years ago.

This tradition has been since kept alive with the practice of these sutras to attain oneness with the supreme power.

Hatha Yoga is the most popular branch which is being followed all around the world, mainly in the west. It comprises of asanas (postures), pranayamas (breathing exercises) and meditation (mind control). Practice of this branch of yoga improves physical and mental health.
