Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is the most interesting of all forms. It results in an awakening of the body by tapping the energy which is ‘coiled’ in the base of the spine.Through this form, the energy recoils like a snake and spreads over the whole body, passing through the seven chakras and ultimately reaches the crown chakra situated at the top of the head.

The seven major chakras found in our body are the:

  • base (Muladhara)
  • sacral (Swadhisthana)
  • the solar plexus (Manipura)
  • heart (Anahata)
  • throat (Vishuddha)
  • brow (Ajna)
  • crown (Sahasrara).

The Muladhara is based at the tip of the spine; the Swadhisthana is located two inches below the naval, the Manipura is two inches below the breastbone at the center of the stomach, the Anahata is found behind the breast bone, the Vishuddha is at the collar bone in the lower neck, the Agna is situated at the centre of the forehead and the last one is the Sahasrara, which is at behind the top of the skull.

Kundalini Yoga is a discipline of the physical, mental and spiritual being. This is also known as the yoga of awareness as if develops consciousness, improves your intuitive powers and taps the infinite energy present in everyone of us.

With the help of some asanas, pranayam (extension of breath) and meditation, this energy situated at the Muladhara chakra, passes through all the chakras, activating them and finally amalgamating the kundalini energy.

This type of practice involves kriya, which is a technique consisting of various asanas and pranayam, that focuses on a definite body part. During the practice, there is a lot of chanting which goes on changing with the different postures.

Practicing this yoga requires a lot of physical and mental strength
