The Anusara Yoga has been founded by John Friend in 1997, who was earlier a follower of Iyengar Yoga and was even a member of the board.
It is a modern school of yoga which gives the same meditative benefits as can be found in the ancient Hatha Yoga and is based on Tantric philosophy of inherent goodness. This form is based on ‘Universal Principles of alignment’ and consists of many heart opening postures.
The Anusara Yoga practice is broadly divided into three parts, which are attitude, alignment and action.
- Attitude is the intention of the heart to force the mind and body into doing something to awaken to our divinity.
- The second part which is alignment is to be aware of the various parts of our body and their connection with each other.
- The final one is action which helps in the flow of energy in your body by natural means. This form dwells on looking for good in people and things around you. Its philosophy ‘celebration of the heart’ is what makes people all round the world to trust this practice.
The vision which is called Shiva-Shakti Tantra is based on the idea that all creations are formed as a result of dance between Divine polarizations. The students of this form are asked to strengthen their intention on alignment with the Divine and attain the highest salvation.
The concept is that everyone around us is Divine and all we need to do to discover the same is to see them from inside and attain oneness with Divinity. In this form of yoga, props have been used to perfect the alignment in the postures. The Anusara Yoga is made up of 250 asanas, which are a part of the broader Hatha Yoga.
